It’s not easy to have a conversation with someone I really like who’s political or religious opinion is different than mine.
As they are sharing their opinion, I’m already thinking about what I am going to say in return. I’m not really listening to them. I’m only thinking of my defense.
What if they share a piece of information that changes my opinion? I don’t want that to happen. I am clinging to my own belief with an iron grip.
I notice myself doing this and I don’t like it. What if I really listened without judgement, took in what they have to say and instead of plotting my counter move, just acknowledged what they said? Could I do that?
It’s worth a try.
